General Rules and information for miniature artwork:

Sizing of artwork

Rectangles and ovals 115 x 152mm including frame.

Squares 115 x 115mm including frame.

Circular 115mm including frame.

Mount board no wider than 20mm – must be clean and not overcut in the corners of the mount board.

Frames should not be wider 25mm nor deeper than 20mm.

Sculptures should not be more than 200mm on the longest side.

Size limits for Human/Animal portraits

Heads should not measure more than 2inches (50mm) from chin to the top of the head. For animals, heads include ears.

General artwork guidelines

Original artworks in any medium may be submitted provided they are within the tradition of miniature techniques and are finely executed by hand, with attention to detail. No digital art, 3D printing, photographs, lithographic printing.

Banned materials

Any artwork made from or with animal/marine products such as ivory or bone will be automatically rejected by the Council. This includes all ivory, old ivory, piano keys, tusk and scrimshaw etc. Also, any restricted or endangered wood species such as Lignum Vitae, Rosewood, Ipe and Cumaru etc.
