Debby Faulkner-Stevens
RMS
Debby has been painting professionally since the late ‘70’s and, after a long and varied career, now
specialises in miniature paintings in gouache on Kelmscott vellum produced since 1870 by W Cowley,
Parchment Makers, at her birthplace, Newport Pagnell.
The highly detailed colourful miniatures mostly measure just two inches square and often feature
British birds and animals together with intricate borders, quotes and sayings from literature or
folklore with Debby often returning to Shakespeare, Keats and John Clare for inspiration.
She is an elected member of the Royal Society of Miniature Painters, the Society of Women Artists
and the Hilliard Society here in the UK, and the MPSGS of Washington in the USA where she has won
many prestigious awards including Best International Artist at the Miniature Arts Society of Florida
annual exhibition in 2026.
Debby has won the Anita Emmerich Presentation Award, the President’s Special Commendation and
the Group Award with the RMS, and many others with the SWA, The Hilliard Society, The Llewelyn
Alexander Gallery and the Association of Animal Artists.
When not painting, she enjoys horse riding, rummaging around flea markets for items from the Biba
store of the 1970’s to add to her collection, reading murder mysteries, going for long walks and
exploring ancient churches.
She is delighted to have retained her imagination and ability to dream from childhood and
frequently wonders what she’ll do when she grows up.
