Christina Hart-Davies
RMS
Christina has a BA(Hons) degree in Typography and Graphic Communication, and spent several
years working with a London design group. On moving to Dorset she became a
professional botanical artist and illustrator, with six Gold Medals awarded by the Royal
Horticultural Society in London (1984, 1986, 1988, 1992, 1993 and 2018). Her work is held in
collections worldwide, notably RBG Kew, RHS, The Hunt Institute, Pittsburgh, and The Shirley
Sherwood Collection. Christina was a Founder Member, and Honorary Secretary for its first ten
years, of the Society of Botanical Artists. She tutored many courses and workshops on botanical
painting.
In 1985 Christina was elected a full member of the Royal Miniature Society, exhibiting and
supporting the Society for many years before retiring to concentrate on illustration work and
teaching. Having now retired from teaching, she has resumed full RMS membership. She works
mainly in watercolour on vellum, painting plants, habitats and, occasionally, mystical subjects.
She has illustrated, or contributed illustrations to, a wide range of books and publications and has
written several books of her own: A Wild Plant Year, history, folklore and uses of Britain’s flora
(2016), The Greenwood Trees, history, folklore and uses of Britain’s trees (2018) and The Whole
Story, painting more than just the flowers (2020). Her latest book, The Herbal Year, Folklore,
History and Remedies, was published in spring 2024.
