THE FAMILY ORDER OF KING CHARLES III by Elizabeth Meek MBE HPRMS
The smallest new official portrait commissioned by His Majesty King Charles III for the Royal Family Order to be worn by Her Majesty the Queen on state occasions.
The miniature portrait, painted in oil on polymin and measuring just 4x3cm was worn for the first time, on the evening of 25th June 2024 at the state dinner in honour of the Emperor Naruhito and the Empress Masako of Japan.
The tradition of commissioning a Family Order, a badge to be worn by female members of the Royal Family personally bestowed by the Sovereign, was first established by George IV over 200 years ago.
In 2005 Elizabeth painted a miniature portrait of his Majesty, as the Prince of Wales.
The new portrait depicts The King wearing the uniform of the Admiral of the Fleet and is encased in a diamond-set white and gold frame, on a pale green ribbon.
